Christine Bastian

Viola

Christine Bastian, viola, performs as a chamber and orchestral musician across Michigan. As a chamber musician, she focuses on community engagement and new music, performing with her contemporary music group, the ConTempus Quartet, in venues as diverse as the Detroit Institute of the Arts, Spring Arbor University, and the Capital Area District Library. Other recent chamber collaborations include performances on Concordia University’s faculty recital series, Music At St. Paul’s Flint, and the Absolute Music Series in Lansing. Christine also serves as principal violist of the Midland Symphony, a section violist with the Lansing Symphony, and performs as a substitute violist with the Flint Symphony and Detroit Symphony. In addition to her work as a violist, Christine is Director of Career Services and Music Entrepreneurship at the Michigan State University College of Music. She holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in Viola Performance and a Master of Music in Viola Performance from Indiana University.
