Solveig Geenen
Solveig Geenen is currently pursuing a Master of Music in violin performance at the University of Michigan, where she studies with David Halen. She received her Bachelor of Music from Northwestern University under the instruction of Gerardo Ribeiro, with a major in violin performance and a minor in English literature. Born and raised in Columbia, Missouri, Solveig began learning the violin at age three from her mother, Siri Geenen, and then went on to study with Amy Appold. Solveig’s professional engagements include section violin positions with the Ann Arbor Symphony, the Lansing Symphony, and the Missouri Symphony. In past summers, Solveig was a violin fellow at the National Repertory Orchestra, where she was principal second violin, and the Aspen Music Festival and School, where she was assistant concertmaster of the Aspen Conducting Academy Orchestra. In addition to her passion for orchestral playing, Solveig is an avid chamber musician, working with the Telegraph Quartet at the University of Michigan and the Dover Quartet at Northwestern University. In her free time, Solveig enjoys reading, knitting, running, and hiking.
